Assistant Professor Spyros Repousis joined UNIC Athens as Assistant Professor on September 2026, following a long-standing academic affiliation with the University of Nicosia since 2016. His academic and professional expertise focuses primarily on Banking, Finance, Financial Risk Management, Financial Markets, and Financial Regulation.

Dr Repousis holds a PhD in Banking and Finance from the University of the Peloponnese, Department of Economics, awarded with distinction. His doctoral research examined the impact of mergers and acquisitions on the efficiency of the Greek banking system. He also holds an MSc in Banking and Finance from the University of Stirling, UK; an MBA with exceptional distinction from the University of Nicosia; an MA in International Relations and European Studies from the University of Nicosia; and a Bachelor degree in Economics from the Athens University of Economics and Business.

His academic career spans more than two decades. At the University of Nicosia, he has taught extensively at postgraduate level, including courses in Advanced Corporate Finance, Portfolio Analysis, Financial Markets and Institutions, Financial Risk Management, Global Financial Strategies, and Working Capital Management. He has also supervised postgraduate dissertations and has been involved in doctoral supervision. His broader academic experience includes teaching and supervision at the Hellenic Open University, the Open University of Cyprus, and the former Technological Educational Institute of Patras.

Prior to focusing primarily on academia, Dr Repousis accumulated more than two decades of professional experience in the Greek banking sector, including at Piraeus Bank, where his responsibilities involved the assessment and evaluation of corporate credit proposals and financing requests. He subsequently worked as an economist in the corporate sector and has also served as a financial consultant to the Municipality of Patras. This extensive professional background complements his academic work and supports an applied approach to teaching and research.

Dr Repousis has an extensive research record, with numerous publications in international peer-reviewed journals and contributions to scholarly edited volumes. His research interests include Banking and Financial Stability, Corporate Finance, Financial Risk Management, Financial Regulation and Supervision, Financial Crime and Fraud, Anti-Money Laundering, FinTech and Digital Banking, Cryptocurrencies and Payment Systems, Investment and Portfolio Analysis, and the interaction between Finance, Governance, and the broader economic and geopolitical environment.

His recent research addresses digital transformation in banking, banking supervision and risk management, cryptocurrencies, global payment fragmentation, investor sentiment, financial fraud and corruption, artificial intelligence, and sustainable investment. His work has appeared in international academic journals including the Journal of Money Laundering Control, Journal of Financial Crime, Journal of Financial Regulation and Compliance, Journal of Risk and Financial Management, EuroMed Journal of Business, The Cyprus Review, and Business Perspectives and Research. He also serves as a reviewer for several international peer-reviewed academic journals.
