Nikos Koumoutzis is an Associate Professor at the School of Law, University of Nicosia, and since September 2026 a member of its Athens Branch (UNIC Athens), specialising in European human rights law and family law. His research focuses on the accommodation of Islamic institutions and normative systems in Western legal contexts; the legal framework of reproductive technologies, particularly issues of access and the determination of parentage in both domestic and cross-border settings; and the intersection of law, gender, and sexual orientation, with particular attention to the recognition of transgender individuals and same-sex couples. His work combines doctrinal analysis with comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives.
