The Jazz Summer Workshop 2023

The University of Nicosia and the Future Academy of Arts co-organise THE JAZZ SUMMER WORKSHOP 2023.

Come and learn how to improvise and jam with other people! Discover swing music!

Lessons for Singing, Wind instruments, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drums, Improvisation, Ensemble. With concerts and jam sessions every day for 5 days!

Minimum Admission Requirements:

Voice:
The major scale 1 octave (up and down), basic musical notation and rhythmic recognition.

Winds:

Saxes: C, D, Eb, E, F, Bb major scales in 2 octaves, G and A major scales in 1 octave and a 5th.

• Trumpets: C, D, Eb, E, F major scales in octave, A and Bb major scales in 1 octave and a 5th and G major scale in 2 octaves.
• Concert pitch winds: C, Db, Eb, F, G, Ab, Bb major scales in one octave.

Guitar:

• Scales: All major and natural minor in 2 octaves, in one position (closed) with the root on 6th string.
• Arpeggios: All major and minor triads in 2 octaves, in one position (closed) with the root on the 6th string.
• Barred Chords: All major and minor barred chords in 2 positions with the root on 6th string and with the root on 5th string.

Piano:

• Scales: Major and relative minor in 2 octaves, 9 keys (C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D, A, E)
• Arpeggios: Major and relative minor in 2 octaves, 9 keys (C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D, A, E)

Bass:
All major, natural minor, and minor pentatonic scales in closed position

Drums:
Basic technique and groove at various tempos

Workshop:

• Workshop dates and times: 03-07 July between 15:30 – 20:30
• Location: Future Academy of Arts
• Auditions: 02 July at 11:00 at Future Academy of Arts
• Daily concerts and jam sessions at Sarah’s Jazz Club at 21:30
• Student concert on 07 July at Sarah’s Jazz Club at 21:30
