Dr Christine Savvidou

Christine Savvidou is an Associate Professor and PhD TESOL coordinator at the University of Nicosia. She studied at the University of Loughborough (BSc Sociology 1988, PGCE 1989), University of Manchester (MEd English Language Teaching 2001) and University of Nottingham (EdD Teacher Education 2007).

Dr Savvidou has worked in all sectors of education (New Hutte Primary school, UK 1988-89; Pascal Education, 1989-2001; Intercollege,2001-2007; University of Nicosia, 2007-present). She currently teaches TESOL courses on the BA English Language and Literature programme, and the MA TESOL programme. Both programmes are delivered in traditional and distance learning modes.

Dr Savvidou has served on various academic committees (Departmental council 2007-present, School Council 2010-12, 2016-2018) and she is currently appointed as PhD coordinator for the TESOL programme.

Between 2008 and 2011, Dr Savvidou served as a research coordinator for a project funded by the Research Promotion Foundation Programme (European Language Policies: Implementation in Higher Education in Cyprus). Dr Savvidou’s research focuses on teacher development in higher education and she has had her work published her work in international refereed journals (‘Intercultural Education’, ‘Technology, Pedagogy and Education’, ‘Journal of Teacher Development’, ‘Teachers and Teaching: Theory and Practice’) and is also a reviewer for several international journals  (‘Teacher Development’, ‘Reflective Practice’, ‘Equity and Excellence in Education’, ‘Pedagogies: and International Journal’, ‘International Journal of English Studies’).

Since 2014, Dr Savvidou has been responsible for Teacher Development in TESOL, an annual professional development event aimed at language teachers in Cyprus.
