4th Lecture in the memory of Nikolaos Ι. Saripolos takes place in Larnaca

On January 31, the School of Law of the University of Nicosia and the Larnaca Bar Association, with the support of the Municipality of Larnaca, co-organised the “4th Lecture in the memory of Nikolaos Ι. Saripolos” at the House of Arts and Letters in Larnaca. The opening address was delivered by the Mayor of Larnaca Andreas Vyras, the President of the Larnaca Bar Association Christakis Mouskos, and the Dean of UNIC School of Law Prof. Achilles C. Emilianides.

The main speaker was Professor of Public Law at the University of Oxford Pavlos Eleftheriadis, who spoke on the topic “The Constitution as Supreme Law”. Prof. Eleftheriadis analysed the idea of the Constitution as a legal concept through theory and practice, and examined the various schools of thought that it has inspired. According to Prof. Eleftheriadis, ethical theory and Nikolaos Saripolos -one of its main supporters- transformed the Constitution to more than just a technical concept developed through judicial decisions, but to a polity closely intertwined with democracy.

The event was moderated by Nicolas Kyriakides, with Theognosia Kouspi as a discussant, both Adjunct Faculty members of UNIC School of Law.
