Dr Manos Vlasiou

Adjunct Faculty

Dr Manos Vlasiou has a PhD (University of Cyprus, Department of Chemistry) in the field of Medicinal Inorganic Chemistry. His thesis was incorporated the synthesis and characterization of metal-based drugs that causing apoptosis in cancer cells through the disruption of electron’s Krebs cycle in mitochondria. He is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a certified chemist. In addition, he is a reviewer for a number of scientific journals and a formulation specialist and responsible person for the domestic cosmetic industry. During his PhD he supervised five different undergraduate diploma theses and two master diploma theses. He had super user NMR responsibilities, and participated in two research funded programs. Moreover, he teaches inorganic and organic chemistry lessons for undergraduate students. He continued his postdoctoral research at the same university in the field on analysis of minor and major food components using NMR techniques. Dr Vlasiou has published his work in more than fifteen scientific articles and present his findings in more than fifteen international conferences in poster and oral sessions. He is currently teaching medicinal chemistry and physical chemistry lessons in University of Nicosia (Pharmacy program) and his research interests lies both on synthesis of anticancer and antimicrobial meta-based drugs and in spectroscopic evaluation of drug interactions. At the same time, he is working as a researcher in a funded project by research and innovation foundation with title “Hollow Particles for Essential Oil Encapsulation”.
