UNRF a beneficiary of the project ‘InterRecycle’

The University of Nicosia Research Foundation (UNRF) is among the beneficiaries of InterRecycle – “Robotic Rapid Screening System for the Enhancement of the Interregional Recycling Activities of Greece and Cyprus”.

The aim of InterRecycle is το design and develop a robotic system that will improve the process of sorting recyclable waste, making it more efficient and sustainable. Furthermore, the social reciprocity of the project will be examined in order to maximize the positive impacts of InterRecycle to the environment, the society and the economy. During the program, multiple educational actions will be implemented in order to raise awareness about project and its results, as well as environmental issues.

The project is implemented within the INTERREG VA Cooperation Program “Greece – Cyprus 2014-2020”. It is co-financed by the European Union (ERDF) and from National Resources of Greece and Cyprus. Its implementation will last 24 months, while the beneficiaries of the project, apart from UNRF, are the Institute of Technology and Research (FORTH), the Association of Solid Waste Management of Crete (ESDAK) and Green Dot Public Co Ltd.

The InterRecycle kick-off meeting took place in Heraklion, Greece on the 11 February. All partners visited the industrial research area of the Association of Solid Waste Management of Crete (ESDAK) and the Foundation of Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH).
