University of Nicosia: Two positive cases for COVID-19 identified

The University of Nicosia was informed on Sunday, 18 October, about two positive cases of COVID-19 among its community. The cases concern students of the Department of Life and Health Sciences, who are thankfully in good health, exhibiting only mild symptoms.

The University immediately implemented its COVID-19 action plan, by which the premises in which the laboratory courses of the Department take place were immediately disinfected. All laboratory classes of that Department will be conducted online over the next 10 days, in order to prevent the spread of the virus. Moreover, everyone who has come into contact with the two students has been informed and is already self-isolating.

It should be noted that all the University’s theoretical courses have been conducted online since the beginning of the new academic year.

Lastly, the University of Nicosia had developed and implemented a special operations protocol to protect the health of its community since the early stages of the global spread of COVID-19 and before any such cases of SARS-CoV-2 were detected in Cyprus. The University’s health and safety protocol is constantly updated in accordance with the country’s epidemiological situation.
