The University of Nicosia participated in the Conference on Innovative Higher Education, themed “Leading the Future of Learning”, which took place in Limassol on 23, 24 and 25 October 2024.

The conference, organised by the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU), brought together experts from the fields of online, blended, and distance education. These experts shared their insights and expertise on the challenges and opportunities faced by universities at both the student and societal levels, including topics such as generative artificial intelligence, sustainability, micro-credentials, and a range of other issues.

The University of Nicosia was represented by Ms Eleni Neocleous, Director of the Distance Learning Unit, and Ms Eleni Trichina, Administration Coordinator of the Distance Learning Unit. Among the attendees were Rectors and Professors from various European universities, as well as notable figures from education-related fields.

The conference, also named I-HE2024, combined presentations, research sessions, panel discussions, and workshops. The sessions covered a variety of topics, including diversity and inclusion in online and distance education, Chat GPT, large language models (LLM), innovation in research and technology, skills development, leadership, strategy, and future trends. Special emphasis was placed on the ethical issues arising from the use of new technologies, such as bias, privacy, and equity, and the need to create frameworks to address these challenges.
