UNIC School of Veterinary Medicine and UAB Faculty of Veterinary Medicine sign Cooperation Agreement

The University of Nicosia School of Veterinary Medicine (UNIC) and the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UAB) are pleased to announce the signing of a cooperation agreement, during a recent meeting in Barcelona on 27 April 2023. The agreement signifies an important step forward in international collaboration for the two institutions.

Prof Andreas Charalambous, Executive Vice President for UNIC Health, and Prof Manel Bejar-Lopez, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at UAB, met to discuss and finalize aspects of the cooperation agreement, which will focus on the development of joint degrees, student and faculty exchanges, and research collaboration on infectious and zoonotic diseases.

This collaboration aims to strengthen the ties between UNIC and UAB, fostering a spirit of innovation and excellence in veterinary medicine. Students and faculty from both institutions will benefit from the opportunity to learn from each other, share resources, and collaborate on cutting-edge research projects. Furthermore, this partnership will enhance the educational experience and international outlook of graduates from both universities.

Prof Charalambous expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, ‘We are delighted to be working with UAB, a leading institution in the field of veterinary medicine. This collaboration will not only benefit our students and faculty but will also contribute to the advancement of veterinary research in Europe’.

Prof Bejar shared similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges: ‘This partnership with UNIC underscores our commitment to working together to improve animal and human health within the principles of One Health research vision, which we share. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration that will drive research and enhance the educational experience for our students’.

As part of the joint commitment of collaboration, Prof Manel – Bejar has accepted the invitation by Prof Charalambous to serve on the International Advisory Council of the University of Nicosia School of Veterinary Medicine.
