UNIC Athens Operating Licence Remains Fully Valid Following Recent Council of State Decisions
UNIC Athens continues to operate normally, with no change to the status of its students, academic activities or admissions.
Following reports today regarding decisions of the Greek Council of State (ΣτΕ) concerning the operating licences of three other non-state university branches in Greece, the University of Nicosia wishes to clarify the position of UNIC Athens.
- The decisions do not concern or annul the operating licence of UNIC Athens.
- The licence for the establishment and operation of UNIC Athens, the University of Nicosia’s branch campus in Greece, was issued by the Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports on 29 August 2025 and remains fully valid and in force.
- There is no pending application before the Council of State seeking the annulment of the UNIC Athens operating licence, and the statutory period for bringing a new challenge against that licence has expired.
Accordingly, there is no change to the legal or operational status of UNIC Athens as a result of the decisions reported today.
For students, applicants and their families, this means:
- Current students continue their studies normally and without interruption.
- All academic and campus operations continue normally.
- Admissions, enrolment and recruitment for the 2026–27 academic year continue as planned.
UNIC Athens remains focused on its academic mission and on providing students in Greece with high-quality university education, research and student services in accordance with the Greek regulatory framework and the academic standards of the University of Nicosia.
