The Medical School and BPW continue cervical cancer screening programme for the second consecutive year

During a press conference held this morning to mark the 13th European Week for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer, the Minister of Health Mr Constantinos Ioannou announced the commencement of the fifth phase of the pilot cervical cancer screening programme for some of the remote regions of Larnaca, Limassol and Nicosia districts.

The Medical School’s Chair of the Department of Primary Care and Population Health, Dr Ourania Kolokotroni, announced that the screening programme would be run by the School’s Mobile Clinic in collaboration with Business Professional Women (BPW), Cyprus Chapter, and with the support of the Ministry of Health. She added that gynaecologist Dr Savvas Argyrides would lead the School’s gynaecological team comprised of staff and students. Twice a month they will visit the Health Centre of Kofinou village in the district of Larnaca where they will perform free PAP tests for as many women as possible between the ages of 25 and 65. The screening programme has already begun, in January 2019, and will last until June 2019.
