I always knew I wanted to become a veterinarian.I never imagined that I would find myself in Cyprus, about 9000 km away from my home in Ontario, Canada. While Canadian veterinary schools are indeed highly competitive, after several attempts that didn’t go as planned, I was fortunate to find a promising opportunity in Nicosia and took a leap of faith. Cyprus has been an indescribable experience.
The lack of any appreciable winter and year-round sunshine was a definite plus, but what stands out the most is the approachable faculty and staff at UNIC, and the lengths they go to in order for us to get the most out of our time here. Academically, the classes are rigorous, and the testing is as onerous as one would expect of any of the top-tiered, more established schools. Interspersed between intensive studies are opportunities for us to explore and grow as people, as well as to engage with the cultural beauty of this unique island through various outings, courtesy of the school.
From a professional standpoint, UNIC does not disappoint. Seminars are arranged sometimes several times per month for students to broaden their scope of the veterinary field. This has allowed me to connect with and learn from multiple individuals held in high regard within the industry. When I graduate, I intend to return to Canada, but I know that my experiences here will have made me a better and more resilient veterinarian than I ever could have been, had I gone elsewhere.
