The School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) Newsletter

Welcome to the 11th edition of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences Newsletter, published at the end of another productive and inspiring academic year. As we reflect on 2025–2026, we celebrate the achievements of our students, faculty, researchers, alumni, and partners whose dedication continues to enrich the academic life of our School and advance our School’s mission.

This edition highlights scholarly, creative, and community-engaged activities across our Departments. The Department of Languages and Literature showcases important achievements in language education, linguistics, artificial intelligence, international collaborations, publications, and doctoral research. The Department of Social Sciences presents initiatives that promote inclusion, mentoring, and community engagement, alongside significant developments in psychology and child and adolescent protection. The Department of Design and Multimedia demonstrates the remarkable creativity of our students and faculty through exhibitions, international collaborations, publications, workshops, and innovative design practices. The Department of Communications continues to explore emerging technologies and their impact on journalism, media, and public communication, fostering critical dialogue on the future of the field.

This year has also been particularly significant for the growth of the University through UNIC Athens, which continues to expand educational opportunities in Greece. We are especially pleased to highlight the launch of the four-year BSc Psychology programme at UNIC Athens. This development reflects our commitment to extending the reach and impact of Psychology education and research beyond Cyprus while maintaining the high academic standards that define the University of Nicosia.

A defining moment of the year was the Graduation Ceremony of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, held on 26 June 2026. It was a privilege to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates as they concluded an important chapter in their lives and prepared to embark on new professional and personal journeys. We are immensely proud of each and every one of them and look forward to witnessing their future contributions to society.
As we conclude this academic year, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all colleagues, students, staff, alumni, and collaborators who contribute to the continued success of our School.

I wish you all a restful, enjoyable, and well-deserved summer break. We look forward to welcoming you back in the new academic year with fresh energy, new ideas, and continued commitment to excellence in teaching, research, creativity, and service.
With best wishes,

Professor Ioulia Papageorgi
