European Commission Vice President engages in dialogue with students at UNIC

Mr. Margaritis Schinas encouraged young men and women to participate in the upcoming European elections

On Friday, 22 March, the University of Nicosia (UNIC) hosted Mr. Margaritis Schinas, the Vice President of the European Commission, who visited the University in the framework of his 3-day official visit to Cyprus.

At UNIC, Mr. Schinas engaged in a dialogue with students, discussing topics ranging from democracy to the upcoming European elections. The dialogue, moderated by the University’s Senior Vice Rector, Professor Constantinos N. Phellas, provided students with a unique opportunity to directly exchange views with Mr. Schinas on crucial European issues.

Throughout the discussion, Mr. Schinas emphasized the importance of active youth participation in shaping the future of Europe, highlighting the role of democracy and the European Way of Life. He encouraged students to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming European elections, underscoring its significance in safeguarding democracy and advancing the values of solidarity, security, and prosperity in Europe.

The event was greeted by the Rector of the University, Professor Philippos Pouyioutas, who, encouraged everyone to participate massively in the European elections.

Overall, Mr. Schinas’s visit sparked meaningful dialogue and inspired students to actively engage in shaping the future of Europe.

This is the third visit of Mr. Schinas to Cyprus during his tenure as Vice President of the Commission.
