Dr. Thaleia Liargkova

Dr. Thalia Liargkova is a Teaching and Research Faculty Member in Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Health Sciences, UNIC Athens. She holds a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), where she conducted her doctoral research under the supervision of Professor Dimitra Hadjipavlou-Litina. She also holds an MSc in the Production and Quality Control of Pharmaceutical Compounds (AUTH/NKUA joint programme) and an MSc in Healthcare Management (Hellenic Open University).

Her research expertise lies in multitarget-directed ligand (MTDL) design — the rational development of small molecules capable of simultaneously modulating multiple biological targets, with a focus on neurodegeneration and cancer.

From 2020 to 2023, Dr. Liargkova was awarded a competitive postdoctoral fellowship by the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (IKY, 2nd Cycle) to conduct independent research at AUTH on the pharmacochemical exploitation of the enone moiety in novel pleiotropic hybrid molecules. Prior to her academic appointment at UNIC Athens, she served as a permanent Hospital Pharmacist at the Hippokration General Hospital of Thessaloniki (2022–2026), where she gained extensive clinical experience in oncology pharmacy, cytostatic preparation, and hospital drug management. She has also served as a lecturer at the AUTH School of Pharmacy (PD 407/80, 2018–2019) and as an invited speaker at the AUTH Practical Training Seminars (2012–2018).

Dr. Liargkova is the author of four peer-reviewed publications indexed in Scopus, with 191 citations and an h-index of 4. Her work has been presented at more than 28 international and national scientific conferences, including the EFMC International Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry (Berlin, Manchester, Basel), the EFMC Young Medicinal Chemist Symposium (Lisbon, Cagliari), the EFMC-ASMC (Zagreb 2023), and the 16th International Symposia on Applied Bioinorganic Chemistry (Ioannina 2023). She has received a Best Poster Award at the 16th Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Conference (2013) and a Travel Fellowship from the Hellenic Society of Medicinal Chemistry (2016).

At UNIC Athens, Dr. Liargkova contributes to the undergraduate Pharmacy programme through teaching Pharmaceutical Chemistry I (IMPH-240), including laboratory courses in pharmaceutical synthesis. Her broader academic interests encompass the interface between chemical synthesis, biological evaluation, and drug delivery, areas that naturally extend her teaching into translational pharmaceutical science.

Dr. Liargkova is a registered pharmacist (Pharmaceutical Society of Greece, since 2008) and holds a qualification in Adult Education (KEDIVIM-AUTH, 2019).
