Dr. Maria Kilteni

Adjunct Faculty

Maria Kilteni is an accomplished jurist and international legal scholar whose academic and professional journey reflects a profound commitment to understanding law across borders, systems, and evolving global realities. She began her studies at the School of Law of the Democritus University of Thrace in Komotini, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Law. This foundational period cultivated her analytical precision and sparked her interest in the ways legal systems interact within an increasingly interconnected world.

Her pursuit of advanced legal knowledge led her to the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where she completed a Master’s degree in Private International Law. There, she explored the complexities of conflict of laws, international jurisdiction, and cross‑border legal relationships. She then expanded her academic horizons in Germany, earning a second Master’s degree in International Commercial Law from the University of Eberhard Karls of Tübingen. Immersed in a comparative legal environment, she deepened her understanding of international trade, commercial transactions, arbitration, and the regulatory structures that support global commerce.

Maria’s intellectual curiosity and commitment to research culminated in a PhD in International Insolvency Law at the Democritus University of Thrace. Her doctoral thesis, “The active participation of creditors in the insolvency of their debtor according to Greek, English and American insolvency law,” reflects her ability to analyze complex legal systems, compare diverse insolvency frameworks, and propose insights relevant to both theory and practice. She later continued her academic trajectory with a Post‑Doctoral research project at the same university, focusing on international transport law. Her post‑doctoral thesis, “The passengers’ rights in railway and air transport before and after Covid‑19,” examined the evolution of passenger protections in a rapidly changing global context.

Her scholarly engagement extends beyond research. Maria has authored twenty seven publications in Greek and international law journals, contributing original research and comparative analysis across her fields of expertise. Her work demonstrates sustained engagement with global legal developments and reinforces her role as an active voice in international legal scholarship.

Maria has also built a strong teaching profile across several institutions. She has taught Commercial Law at the Law School of UNIC Athens, and Commercial Law, Labor Law, and General Principles of Civil Law at the University of West Attica. Additionally, she has taught Maritime Law and Civil Law at the Hydra Merchant Marine Academy, enriching students’ understanding of specialized legal fields with clarity, depth, and practical insight.

Her international orientation is further strengthened by her participation in the Private International Law courses of the Hague Academy and by receiving a prestigious Greek State Scholarship (IKY) to conduct doctoral research at Oxford University.

Maria speaks greek, english, french, and german fluently (level C2), and communicates very well in italian and spanish (level C1). Her multilingual abilities, combined with her extensive academic and teaching experience, position her as a jurist capable of navigating and shaping the legal frameworks that govern cross‑border interactions in a world of constant change.
