Industry Donation to the UNIC Department of Engineering

Petroleum Experts Ltd (Petex) has donated 10 MOVE Software Suite licenses to the Department, totalling over €1,642,000 in commercial value.

The Department of Engineering of the University of Nicosia is delighted to announce a significant donation from the industry in the form of software licenses. Specifically, Petroleum Experts Ltd (Petex), a company specialising in software tools for Petroleum Engineering and Structural Geology, has donated 10 licenses of the MOVE Software Suite, the commercial equivalent of which is GBP £1,409,060 (approximately €1,642,260), to the Oil & Gas Engineering programmes of the Department of Engineering of the University of Nicosia.

The MOVE Software is a state-of-the-art structural modelling and analysis toolkit, used to reduce risk and uncertainty in geological models, supporting near-future reservoir modelling research and teaching in the Oil and Gas Engineering programmes. More specifically, the software may be used in 2D and 3D kinematic modelling, geomechanical modelling, fracture modelling, stress analysis, fault analysis, fault response modelling, and sediment modelling. Furthermore, direct data transfer workflows are available between Move and Petrel, OpenWorks and GST software packages. Further information on the MOVE software can be found at https://www.petex.com/products/move-suite/move/.

This donation will further enrich the wide spectrum of software already available for research and teaching to students and faculty of the programmes. The Oil & Gas Engineering programmes at the University of Nicosia are the first and only programmes, not only in Cyprus but in the wider region, offering all three levels of study (Bachelor, Masters’ and Doctoral). The programmes have been offered with great success since the fall of 2013.
