Inauguration of the new “Arodafnousa” Hospice

The inauguration ceremony of the new “Arodafnousa” Hospice, namely the only centre offering free palliative care to cancer patients and their families in Cyprus, took place last month.

The name and logo of the University of Nicosia are featured at the “Wall of Donors”, displayed at the entrance of the new Hospice, signifying its long-standing contribution to the works of the Cyprus anti-cancer society, the non-government organization in charge of “Arodafnousa”.

UNIC has been supporting the organization in various ways since 2008, via its various Schools and Departments, which were actively involved in these efforts.

The new Arodafnousa is equipped with 26 single patient rooms and provides meeting rooms for patients seeking psychologists’ consultations and advice from social workers.

Another important addition is that outpatients will now be able to take advantage of the free services of the hospice by visiting for treatment or calling the therapists for free home treatment.

The whole project is a donation from Kyprou and Elenas Tsenta family, Cypriot businesspersons who recognised the important work of the hospice.
