UNIC and Coinbase Expand their Scholarship Programme for Minority Professionals

The partnership, which aims to foster the next generation of leaders in the cryptocurrency industry, is expanding its offering to fifteen (15) full scholarships to the University of Nicosia’s leading MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currency for Fall 2022.

The Institute For the Future (IFF) – University of Nicosia (UNIC) and Coinbase are delighted to announce the continuation of their joint Scholarship Programme for Minority Professionals, offering fifteen (15) full scholarships for the next intake of the UNIC MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currency in Fall 2022.

This is the second year the Scholarship Programme runs, expanding upon the five (5) scholarships offered for the Fall 2021 intake — offering an annual cohort of talented, motivated and diverse candidates the opportunity to pursue the University’s leading Masters programme in the field under an inspiring mentee assignment with Coinbase professionals.

Commenting on the partnership, Veronica Hash, Manager for Belonging at Coinbase, noted the following: “Education is the next frontier for crypto forward talent, and we are thrilled to expand this partnership in 2022. The University of Nicosia’s relevant curriculum and a global reputation for excellence are part of what has made this programme such a success. Our current Coinbase scholars are performing well in classes, as well as thriving in their careers. We look forward to the next round of applicants for our Fall 2022 cohort”.

The partnership

The partnership is aimed at fostering the next generation of leaders in the cryptocurrency industry, in line with the IFF mission to educate leaders, develop knowledge, and build communities to help society prepare for a future shaped by transformative technologies. At the same time, it puts into action Coinbase’s ambitious mission to increase economic freedom in the world, equipping talented minority professionals to leverage blockchain technology and digital currencies to accelerate an open financial system, in which capital flows through open-source protocols that are faster, more transparent, and available to all.

The programme | MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currency

The University of Nicosia MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currency is the world’s first and the leading master’s degree in the field, with more than 1,100 students enrolled since 2014. In line with UNIC’s declared objective in expanding accessibility to and affordability of higher education, the programme is made available to students worldwide through both an online and on-campus format and is linked to a combination of need-based, work-study and merit scholarships, including the Coinbase Scholars Programme for Minority Professionals. It is taught by renowned faculty and practitioners, including Andreas Antonopoulos, Antonis Polemitis, Mark Toohey, and Professor George Giaglis.

The UNIC MSc degree is designed to prepare competent professionals in the field of digital currency (cryptocurrencies) and Blockchain technology, helping to bridge the talent gap between supply and demand for properly educated engineers, developers, analysts, consultants, regulators, and policymakers. Students benefit from a broad background, combining courses in finance, management, computer science, and information systems, to provide a holistic analysis of cryptocurrencies and blockchain systems, applications, and services. Moreover, graduates are vigorously recruited into a range of interdisciplinary positions at the intersection between management, computer science, and finance, by top employers in the US, the UK, and Western Europe.

The Coinbase Scholarship Advantage

What further sets the Coinbase Scholarship apart is that each scholar is paired with a mentor at Coinbase, offering them in this way a chance to learn from someone already in the industry and to gain valuable insight professionally as they navigate their journey in crypto.
