Abstract

Israeli Women are taking part in the political (around 25% of the parliament are women) and civil arena, they have almost equal mode of service in the army, and they are promoting initiatives to achieve peace through negotiations with the Palestinians, trying to create new methods of reconciliation, using the terms of “Sulha” and “Hudna”, taken from Israeli and Arabic culture.

About 15 years ago the organization “4 Mothers” caused the withdraw of the IDF from Lebanon. following this, “Women Wage Peace” held, a few months ago, a huge march for peace of Israeli and Palestinian women, calling the governments to start negotiations. It was a phenomenal success with 20,000 participants at the ending ceremony in Jerusalem.

In 2005 resolution 1325 was enacted as a part of the Israeli law, obliging the government to include women in negotiations for peace and national security issues and in all committees created for these purposes. The supreme court was involved in enforcing it and now all kinds of civil NGO’s are taking care of the inclusion of women with some success.

We believe women, with their special capacities and devotion, can promote initiative of Peace and involvement that didn’t succeed before.
