Webinar 5: Preparing for your PhD Viva: Surviving or ThrivingOverview and Tips

A viva is the final milestone of the Doctoral journey for a student. The viva itself can be an exciting but also stressful experience, which requires considerable mental, psychological, and physical preparation. The viva examination constitutes a valuable and exceptional opportunity for doctoral candidates to discuss their work with experts in the field and demonstrate their knowledge and contribution to the specific topic and the academic field, but also help them showcase their learning, and research skills. This seminar will present an overview of the preparation involved in heading toward a PhD viva, while it also aims to provide suggestions and advice stemming from the Introducer’s experience as a PhD supervisor, examiner, and viva chair. The ideas and material presented aspire to support current doctoral students in better preparing themselves for a more enjoyable and fulfilling viva experience.
