Seminar 4: “Introduction to the Systematic Literature Review Methodology”

Conceptual contributions are critical to the vitality of the business field as they constitute the cornerstone in the development of knowledge and expansion of the existing theoretical boundaries into new research streams. The presenter addresses this issue by defining conceptualization and classifying the various types of conceptual contributions. Then, the focus is turned on the review articles and the systematic review methodology for developing such articles is explained. Next, the criteria used in top business journals for judging conceptual/ systematic review papers are described. Continuing, an epexegesis of the difficulties, as well as the benefits in developing systematic conceptual and review articles is provided. The presentation concludes with a practical example of how a systematic review paper that was published in a top business journal was developed.

Dr Michael Christofi
Department of Marketing, School of Business

Dr Michael Christofi, Department of Marketing, School of Business is a faculty member at the Department of Marketing, School of Business at the University of Nicosia. Previously, he worked as a product development practitioner for several years. His research spans across the fields of strategic management, technological innovation, stakeholder engagement, social marketing and corporate social responsibility, well-being, and organizational ambidexterity. Michael has published several articles in premier publication outlets, such as British Journal of Management, International Business Review, Journal of Business Research, International Marketing Review and Technological Forecasting & Social Change, among others. He has authored several book chapters and won various awards for his research work and academic service. Dr Christofi has also served and serves as a Guest-editor of 16 special issues at highly esteemed journals such as the Journal of Business Research, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Technovation, European Journal of Marketing, International Marketing Review, Journal of Social Entrepreneurship, and Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, among others. He is an expert in conducting critical literature reviews in the areas of management and marketing as he has published several critical literature review articles in highly esteemed academic journals and is currently guest-editing a special issue on systematic reviews in International Marketing Review.
