Seminar 8: European R&I Funding Opportunities for Young Researchers

The Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), the national organization in charge of coordinating the participation of Cyprus in European research and innovation activities, will present some of the funding opportunities for young researchers available through European Programmes. The presentation’s learning objectives will be to:

  1. Raise awareness on available European Programmes and other initiatives that offer funding, training and networking opportunities to doctoral and postdoctoral scientists, faculty members, as well as young scientists.
  2. Outline the content, structure and participation rules and procedures for European Programmes such as the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), the European Research Council (ERC), COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) Actions, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and EURAXESS.
  3. Inform researchers on the services provided by the RIF and the Cypriot National Contact Points (NCPs) to support them with their participation in these Programmes.

Presenter

Dr. Ioannis Theodorou
Scientific Officer, Research and Innovation Foundation

Ioannis Theodorou holds a degree in Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences from the National Technical University of Athens (Greece), and a Master of Research in Nanomaterials and a PhD in Advanced Materials Characterization from Imperial College London (UK). He worked for several years as Research Fellow at Imperial College, as well as the University of Cyprus as MSCA Individual Fellow. In the past he has been National Contact Point (NCP) and Programme Committee Member (PCM) in Horizon 2020 for “Secure societies – Protecting freedom and security of Europe and its citizens” and “Climate Action, Environment, Resource Efficiency and Raw Materials “, and worked in the management and implementation of the corresponding NCP Network projects (SEREN4 and NCPs CaRE). He is currently NCP and PCM for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), Cluster 3: Civil Security for Society, Cluster 1: Health, Research Infrastructures and EURATOM in Horizon Europe. He is also currently responsible for the EURAXESS Network in Cyprus.

Dr Angelos Ntantos
Scientific Officer, Research and Innovation Foundation

Angelos Ntantos holds a degree in Chemistry, a Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Ioannina (Greece).  He worked for several years as Research Associate at the University of Ioannina and the State General Laboratory in Cyprus. He has been Coordinator and Principal Investigator in many research projects in a private company and a lecturer of Chemistry in public and private universities in Cyprus and Greece. In the last years he has been the National Contact Point (NCP) and Programme Committee Member (PCM) in Horizon 2020 for “Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA)”, “Information and Communication Technologies” “Space”, and worked in the management and implementation of the corresponding NCP Network projects (Ideal-ist, Net4mobility, Cosmos). He is currently an NCP and PCM for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) and Cluster 4: Digital, Industry and Space. He is also responsible for the EURAXESS Network in Cyprus. [email protected]
