Webinar 5: EU Horizon Projects: Challenges, Opportunities, and Guidelines for Submission of Funded Research Proposals

Through this presentation, we will provide an update on EU Research Proposals, including the EU framework, processes and tips for the submission. The presentation aims to prompt questions from faculty and researchers regarding the process both within UNIC and the EU. Ideas about strategies for getting involved in consortia will also be provided.

Professor Dimitris Drikakis
Vice President for Global Partnerships,
Executive Director of the Research and Innovation Office at the University of Nicosia

Professor Dimitris Drikakis is the Vice President for Global Partnerships and the Executive Director of the Research and Innovation Office at UNIC. He has a joint faculty appointment in the Schools of Engineering and Computer Science and the Medical School. Before that, he held academic and executive posts as Professor, Executive Dean, and Head of Department at various UK universities for 24 years. He won the 2014 Innovator of the Year from the UK’s Institute of Innovation and Knowledge Exchange and twice the UK’s William Penny Fellowship by the UK’s Atomic Establishment for his fluid dynamics and computational science modelling work. He has published over 460 papers and two books and graduated 45 PhD students with academic and senior positions in various universities and industries worldwide.

Mr. Theodoros Millidonis

Secretary to the Board of the University of Nicosia Research Foundation

Mr. Theodoros Millidonis is Head of Research Administration at the University of Nicosia and Secretary to the Board of the University of Nicosia Research Foundation. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University, an MBA from the University of Nicosia and has served as a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). He is currently pursuing a PhD in E-Learning Management at the University of Nicosia and his main research interests include sustainable approaches to e-learning systems design, understanding human and social factors involved in e-learning, and identifying cost-effective methodologies for the implementation of e-learning systems. Theodoros has significant experience in the coordination of European projects, having served as Head of the Erasmus Office at UNIC for three years prior to joining the Research & Innovation Office in 2020.
