Short biography

Fabienne Hoelzel founded FABULOUS URBAN in 2013, a design research and planning practice for less developed regions, after heading one of Latin America‘s largest slum-upgrading programs in São Paulo, Brazil, the project was awarded UN Habitat Scroll of Honor in 2012 for its pioneering work. The office is currently involved into the Makoko Regeneration Plan, Lagos, Nigeria, that was shortlisted for the 2014 Fuller Challenge, and recently implemented the pilot project “Makoko Neighborhood Hotspot”, a multipurpose community center. Fabienne holds a senior research position at the Institute of Urban Design at the ETH Zurich and is an Associate Lecturer for urban design at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Fabienne was appointed full Professor of Urban Design at the Stuttgart State Academy of Fine Arts, Germany (commencing March 2017).
