MENTOR is a programme of social and personal guidance which connects primary school children from underprivileged families with university students. It gives children the opportunity to build a positive, empowering, stable and supportive relationship with a student, who serves as a role model, friend and mentor, helps children with their school study, and promotes self-confidence.
The “Mentor” is a very carefully structured programme, based on an innovative coaching model which belongs to a larger family of such programmes found abroad. Through this programme the following are achieved:
- Underprivileged children can improve their academic performance.
- They will have positive role models.
- Facilitated learning can help children integrate in higher academic institutions in the future.
- Social responsibility is promoted and the new generation is enriched.
- Volunteering and social responsibility is promoted in University students.
- University students gain experiences related to the social problems of the country.
The programme does not aim at solving all the problems of children participating, but at promoting personal development, social integration and academic success.
