The Department of Politics and Governance of the University of Nicosia cordially invites you to the research seminar titled “Intra-Ethnic Conflict in the North of Kosovo, the Role of the EU and Social/Psychological Implications for the Locals” by Dr Rok Zupančič (Marie Curie Research Fellow & Assistant Professor; Centre of Southeast European Studies, University of Graz & University of Ljubljana), chaired by Michalis Kontos.

This presentation is a part of the project ‘The European Union and its normative power in a post-conflict society: a case study of northern Kosovo (KOSNORTH)’, run at the University of Graz by Dr Rok Zupančič. The project explores what does the “Brussels Dialogue”, one of the cornerstones of current EU peacebuilding activities in Kosovo, mean for the Serbs in the North of Kosovo. As argued by many, the EU-brokered dialogue, which led to the signing of the Brussels agreement (2013), is to be regarded as a “success” of EU peacebuilding. However, such positive assessments usually overlook the consequences for the locals and their perception of ‘success’; among others, the recent developments in the north of Kosovo had certain negative social/psychological implications for the Serbs in the north of Kosovo and contributed to the worsening of intra-ethnic relations within this community.
