IAESTE (International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience) is an association of national committees representing academic, industrial and student interests. It is a non-profit and non-political organisation founded at Imperial College in 1948 and maintains operational relations with other international organisations like UNESCO. Its’ mission is to operate a high quality practical training exchange programme between member countries in order to enhance technical and professional development and to promote international understanding and goodwill amongst students, academic institutions, employers and the wider community.

More than 80 countries are represented in IAESTE, which serves annually 4,000 students, 3,000 employers and 1,000 academic institutions through career-focused professional internships abroad, social and intercultural reception programs, international networking and other career and employer branding activities. Cyprus has been a member of IAESTE since 1980 and is represented and managed by the IAESTE Cyprus National Committee, which is administered by the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT).

All Cypriot and International students enrolled as full-time students in participating educational institutions which operate within the scope and in accordance to the provisions of the Tertiary Education law of the Cyprus Republic are eligible to participate in the exchange program. Also, the student must have completed by the training period, at least two years of studying in a discipline relating to Engineering & Technology, Sciences, Agriculture, Applied Art, Other (e.g. Commerce, Economics, Finance, Banking, Management, etc). Each practical training position usually has a duration of 6 – 12 weeks, which occurs during the summer period. It is estimated that during the summer of 2020, approximately 30 students studying in Cyprus will be able to train at 30 different countries and an equivalent number of international students will be offered practical training in Cyprus. Employers pay IAESTE trainees an allowance and trainees should pay their own transportation, living and lodging expenses.
