Eric Topol, American Cardiologist and Leading Researcher, to Speak at the University of Nicosia’s 2nd Evolve Lecture Series at UNIC Athens
An open lecture on how artificial intelligence, genomics, and biomarkers can help prevent the major diseases associated with aging
The University of Nicosia’s Evolve Lecture Series at UNIC Athens continues with its second lecture, further advancing open dialogue around the developments shaping the future of health, medicine, and biomedical research.
On Thursday, 25 June 2026, from 17:00 to 18:00, UNIC Athens will host Eric Topol, American cardiologist, scientist, and author, as well as Executive Vice-President of Scripps Research, for a lecture entitled “Extending our Healthspan: Preventing the Major Age-Related Diseases.”
In his talk, Eric Topol will focus on the potential to extend healthspan through the prevention of the major diseases associated with aging, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders. He will highlight how advances in artificial intelligence, genomics, and biomarker science are opening new pathways for the early identification and prediction of disease risk, even before the first symptoms appear.
He will also present an approach based on the creation of a comprehensive personal data profile, including, among other elements, genomic data, organ biological clocks, biomarkers, and other relevant parameters, with the aim of analyzing them through multimodal artificial intelligence for more precise risk assessment and the evaluation of potential interventions. As an example of this direction, he will also refer to a new study aimed at preventing Alzheimer’s disease.
The Evolve Lecture Series is part of UNIC Evolve, the University of Nicosia’s flagship research initiative focused on artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotechnology.
About the speaker
Eric Topol is Executive Vice-President of Scripps Research. He remains clinically active as a cardiologist and previously led the Department of Cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic, while also contributing to the founding of the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. He has published more than 1,300 scientific articles, is a member of the US National Academy of Medicine, and is widely regarded as one of the most influential scientists and researchers in medicine and digital health. He is also the author of four bestselling books on the future of medicine, the most recent of which is Super Agers: An Evidence-Based Approach to Longevity.
