Citizens gather at UNIC to reflect on the future of the EU

Aiming to foster debate and engage the society in some of the most crucial current issues affecting the future of the EU, the University of Nicosia Research Foundation (UNRF) organised a transnational forum entitled “Citizens Public Forum FuturEU: Our Borders, Our Security”.

The event was hosted by UNRF, as part of its partnership with a European project entitled: Citizens’ Reflections on the Future of Europe (FuturEU), funded by the European for Citizens Programme.

As part of this event, involved citizens from different Member States had the opportunity to share their perceptions, ideas and experiences on the future of the EU. More analytically, citizens from eight Member States reflected upon and proposed concrete solutions that can be found through EU cooperation in support of the initiatives carried out by the EU institutions in the respective fields.

Participants also exchanged thoughts and opinions in an attempt to influence politicians and policy makers on promoting intercultural dialogue; combating inequality; and fostering tolerance and empathy; which, in turn, will bring about more cohesive, respectful, peaceful and tolerant EU societies.
