Career Development and Mental Health in Focus at UNIC Athens with Prof. Seth C. W. Hayden
UNIC Athens was delighted to welcome Prof. Seth C. W. Hayden, Professor of Counseling and Coordinator of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Wake Forest University, USA, for two events exploring the relationship between career development and mental health, and the application of evidence-informed approaches in counseling practice.
During his visit, Prof. Seth Hayden led an interactive psychology workshop titled “Addressing the ‘Thought’ Problem: Using Cognitive Reframing in Mental Health Support.” The workshop introduced participants to cognitive reframing as an approach to examining and re-evaluating unhelpful thought patterns. Through practical activities and discussion, students explored how this technique can be applied in mental health support and counseling to help individuals develop alternative perspectives and more constructive ways of responding to challenging situations.
The workshop was followed by an Open Talk titled “The Relationship Between Career Development and Mental Health,” which examined the connections between individuals’ career journeys and their psychological well-being. Drawing on research evidence and counseling practice, the talk highlighted the importance of understanding career development within the broader context of mental health, as well as the value of integrating evidence-based approaches into counseling interventions.
Together, the two events provided valuable opportunities for students and participants to engage with contemporary perspectives in counseling, connect research with practical applications, and reflect on approaches that support both career development and mental well-being.
UNIC Athens extends its sincere thanks to Prof. Seth Hayden for sharing his expertise and insights, as well as to all participants who contributed to the discussions and activities.
