Minimally Invasive General Surgeon

Dr Danagra Georgia Ikossi is  a General Surgeon, certified by The American Board of Surgery, with extensive experience in advanced laparoscopy and robotic surgery. She is also the Director of Postgraduate General Medicine and Professor of Postgraduate Medicine at the University of Nicosia Medical School.

Dr Ikossi completed her MD, with distinction, at The George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC in 2001, and her residency in General Surgery and fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery, at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California, in 2009. In addition to her clinical training, Dr Ikossi was awarded a position on the NIH/NRSA Trauma Training Grant at the University of California, San Francisco where she engaged in 2 years of intensive research on topics ranging from resuscitation of the critically injured patient, to deep venous thrombosis, to trauma in pregnancy. This research lead to several peer reviewed publications and national presentations.

From 2009-2022, Dr Ikossi practiced general surgery in San Jose, California, within multispecialty medical groups, serving as a specialist in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery. She also served the community, taking emergency room call at several local hospitals, caring for the full spectrum of general and acute care surgery issues. During these years she has served as adjunct faculty within the Stanford General Surgery residency, teaching the Stanford Family Medicine residents on the surgical rotation.

Dr Ikossi believes in leadership through service and held leadership roles within large multispecialty medical groups and hospitals in California, USA, in addition to serving as an elected member of the medical executive committee, surgical executive committee, board of directors, and an appointed member of the peer review, quality assurance, and surgery department leadership both within hospitals and multispecialty medical groups. She was also an active member of the Northern California Chapter of The American College of Surgeons, served on the membership committee, as a counsellor and as secretary treasurer. She also had the privilege to serve as a Governor at Large representing Northern California to the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons.

In 2022, Dr Ikossi made the exciting move to Cyprus, to join the faculty of the University of Nicosia Medical School and contributed as first Programme Director of the Graduate Entry Doctor of Medicine Programme. She also has the pleasure being part of the team at the University of Nicosia Medical Centre where she sees patients clinically. Since moving to Cyprus, Dr Ikossi has become a member of The Cyprus Surgical Society and has the pleasure of contributing to the education committee.

Dr Ikossi sees patients for a broad range of clinical conditions, primarily focusing on abdominal surgery, including diseases of the gallbladder, surgical treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, paraesophageal hernia, diseases of the stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum and anus, as well as adrenal, distal pancreas and spleen. She also sees patients for skin lesions, soft tissue tumours, thyroid and parathyroid conditions, and lymph node biopsy.

As a minimally invasive surgeon, Dr Ikossi offers patients state of the art surgical treatment with less pain, a shorter recovery time, and a more aesthetically acceptable scar. She has a passion for medicine, surgery and education, and is committed to excellence in the care of her patients.

Dr Ikossi is Board Certified in General Surgery by The American Board of Surgery and is proud to be a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She is licenced by the Medical Board of California, USA and the Medical Council of The Republic of Cyprus and sees patients through GHS as well as private insurance.
