According to the World Health Organization, cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide. In 2022, approximately 660,000 new cases were reported, with around 90% of deaths occurring in low- and middle-income countries, where access to prevention and early diagnosis remains limited.
In Cyprus, preventive screening with the Pap test is offered through the General Healthcare System (GHS) to women aged 18–64 years, free of charge every two years.
