Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive condition where the kidneys don’t work as well as they should.

This effectively means that the kidneys lose their ability to filter waste and excess fluid from the blood, leading to a buildup of toxins in the body and potential health complications like high blood pressure and heart disease.

It’s a common condition often associated with getting older. CKD can get worse over time and eventually the kidneys may stop working altogether, but this is uncommon. Many people with CKD are able to live long lives with the condition.

Novel Practice CKD Service

We are delighted to have introduced a new way of delivering our CKD service in order to achieve the best possible care for our patients. It is crucial that patients with CKD have a regular check-up, particularly of their eyes and their kidneys, in order to prevent complications.

Given that there is no current recall system through the GHS (General Healthcare System) we wanted to innovate by creating  a system whereby we inform you what you need to have done in a year (see table) and then see the nurse for an annual review, where you will go through a specific checklist. Please arrange for blood, urine, and eye tests before coming in to see the nurse.

Annual Review Appointments

You will need to book your very first review appointment yourself. Following reviews by the nurse and doctor, appropriate follow-up care will be offered.
Please inform your personal doctor to request your blood and urine test online and then visit a laboratory of your choice to have your tests done.
