Lecture by Professor Svenja Taubner of the University of Heidelberg

The TREATME, a COST Action European multidisciplinary researcher network focusing on individualized psychotherapy for young people with mental disorders, in collaboration with the Social Sciences Department of the University of Nicosia, invites you to the lecture “PSYCHOTHERAPY FOR ANTISOCIAL YOUTH IN EUROPE” which will be delivered by Professor Svenja Taubner of the University of Heidelberg (Germany), on 13th of September at University of Nicosia, Cine Studio at 5pm.

TREATME researchers and professionals from universities all over Europe would like to take this opportunity to meet local professionals, researchers and policymakers in Cyprus for the purpose of promoting what the Roadmap for Mental Health Research in Europe has identified as a need for coordinated and multidisciplinary efforts to improve knowledge on individualized psychological treatment for young people.

Speaker’s Short Bio

Dr Svenja Taubner is Professor for Psychosocial Prevention at the medical faculty of the University of Heidelberg in Germany. She is the Director of the Institute for Psychosocial Prevention at the University-Hospital Heidelberg.

She studied Psychology and received her PhD at the University of Bremen. She also worked as a researcher at the universities of Ulm, Kassel and Berlin (Germany), and was Professor for Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the University of Klagenfurt (Austria).

Dr Taubner has received the Hamburger Fellowship for Research on Personality Disorders twice, was fellow of the Hanse Institute of Advanced Study in Delmenhorst and Marsilius Kolleg of Advanced Study of the University Heidelberg, Germany, as well as visiting scientist at the Anna-Freud-Centre London, UK. She is currently President of the European Chapter of the Society of Psychotherapy Research and Member of the German Psychoanalytic Society.

Her research addresses mentalization, juvenile offending, and competence development in mental health professionals. She is trained in Mentalization-Based Treatment for adolescents (MBT-A) and is also a supervisor and trainer in this method. She is currently developing an adaptation of MBT-A for the treatment of conduct disorder. Dr Taubner is Editor of the Psychotherapeut, Praxis der Kinderpsychologie und Kinderpsychiatrie, as well as Editor-in-Chief of Mental Health & Prevention. She has published four books and over 70 articles.
