UNIC Athens MD student wins first prize at LifeHack Athens Hackathon 2026
UNIC Athens Medical School student Vasileios Kassos was part of the award-winning team that secured First Prize at the LifeHack Athens Hackathon 2026, held within the Panathenea Festival, one of Greece’s leading events for science and technology.
The team was recognised for its project, ‘Designing Hepatic Patients Triage’, an innovative proposal aimed at improving clinical decision-making in healthcare. In addition to the top prize, the team received a three-month internship opportunity at Dyania Headquarters in New Jersey, USA, as well as the chance to present its idea to a group of international investors.
The project brought together participants from different academic backgrounds, combining expertise in medicine and bioinformatics. Alongside Vasileios Kassos, the team included Leonidas Salikiriakis, Panagiotis Xhovalin Qazimi and Petros Moschovakos, all undergraduate students from the Department of Bioinformatics at the University of Thessaly, as well as Dr Maria-Myrto Bakatsia, MD.
The initiative was academically supported and coordinated by Dr Thanos Anagnostopoulos, Associate Professor of Biochemistry at UNIC Athens Medical School.
