More than 150 healthcare professionals attend 4th Family Medicine Conference
The University of Nicosia Medical School hosted the 4th Pancyprian Family Medicine Conference last Saturday, bringing together more than 150 healthcare professionals from across Cyprus.
The conference was attended by family physicians as well as doctors from a range of other specialties, reflecting the continued focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and professional development in primary healthcare.
In his welcome address, the Dean of the Medical School, Professor Adonis Ioannidis, referred to the importance of ongoing scientific education and the use of modern, evidence-based approaches in primary care. Guest speakers included Ioanna Tsiligianni, Professor of General Practice and Public Health at the University of Crete, and Amer Salim, Professor of Family Medicine at UNIC and Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners in London.
This year’s programme covered topics relevant to daily clinical practice and public health, including respiratory diseases, electrocardiogram interpretation, early cancer diagnosis, emergency cases in primary care, artificial intelligence in healthcare, dyslipidaemia management, olive oil polyphenol supplementation, the clinical use of assessment tools, and new weight-loss medications and their side effects.
The conference also included poster presentations by participating doctors, providing an opportunity to share ongoing clinical and academic work.
As part of the conference, Prof. Salim presented Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) certificates to faculty members Prof. George Samoutis, Prof. Avgis Hadjipapas, Dr Despo Ierodiakonou, Dr George Athanasiou, and Dr Evie Vasiliou, marking their successful completion of the qualification.
The event offered a forum for discussion on current issues in primary healthcare and formed part of the Medical School’s wider engagement with continuing medical education in Cyprus.
