UNIC Honoured at the 14th Cyprus-Russian Festival

The University of Nicosia was honoured for its significant contribution to the strengthening of Cyprus-Russian relations in the field of education, during the 14th Cyprus –Russian Festival, which took place recently in Limassol.

In particular, the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots in Cyprus and Association of Russian-Speaking Residents of Cyprus “Horizont” awarded UNIC for its Russian-Cyprus Academic Olympiad and for its agreement with the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), to launch a common academic project.

The first Russian-Cyprus Academic Olympiad, co-organized by the University of Nicosia and the Russian Cultural Center, with the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Cyprus, took place in Cyprus for the first time last month and was a great success, registering a large participation by Russian speaking pupils from across the island.

Equally contributing to the preservation and enhancement of deep ties between the two nations, the UNIC-MGIMO joint academic project is expected to launch in September 2019, and within its framework, students will receive diplomas from both universities upon graduation. They will also be given the opportunity to spend their time both in Nicosia and Moscow.

Receiving the award on behalf of the University, Ms Evgeniya Kasyan, UNIC Regional Counsellor Russia and CIS, expressed her gratitude for this honour, thanked the organisations and noted that the Cyprus-Russian Olympiad and the UNIC-MGIMO joint academic project are only the beginning of an active effort by the University to deepen the bond between the two countries.

It is worth noting that the festival was organised under the Auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus.
