Mobile Clinic visits rural village of Kampi
Last Sunday, the Mobile Clinic travelled to the village of Kampi (Farmakas) to provide free health screenings to the local population, as part of its ongoing commitment to improving access to healthcare in rural and underserved communities.
A team of 15 students provided blood pressure, glucose and spirometry measurements, as well as body mass index (BMI) assessments under the supervision of Danagra Ikossi, Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Postgraduate Medicine at the Medical School.
In total, 33 residents from Kampi and neighbouring communities benefited from the screenings, which promote awareness of common health conditions and support early detection.
The expedition was made possible through collaboration with the Neighbourhood Social Worker programme, which helped engage residents and coordinate the visit.
The day concluded with a community-hosted lunch at a local tavern, where the team had the opportunity to connect over traditional Cypriot food.
The students visited a small local museum, where community leader Nikos Ioannou showed them how people used to plow their fields

‘Being able to participate in a mobile clinic expedition as a second-year MD student was truly a valuable learning experience. It allowed me to apply the knowledge and practical skills gained in my first year, including blood pressure and glucose assessments, while also gaining exposure to new procedures such as BMI and spirometry. It was also a great opportunity to put my communication skills into practice and connect with students from different years, encouraging networking and collaboration.’

‘The mobile clinic offers a tremendously rewarding experience, allowing us as medical students to apply our clinical and communication skills in a real-world setting. Interacting directly with the community members and helping bridge the gap to proper medical care was a true privilege. Ultimately, this experience reaffirmed why I chose to pursue medicine and how community outreach can be such a vital part of healthcare.’
