Nikos Spyridis is a Professor of Paediatric Infectious Diseases at UNIC Athens Medical School.

Prof Spyridis received his medical degree from the English programme of the University of Pecs in Hungary and trained in paediatrics in London (Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals) and Athens (2nd Department of Paediatrics, NKUA). He later joined the St George’s hospital (London) Paediatric Infectious Diseases team where he received full training in Paediatric Infections. He holds a PhD diploma from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Between 2009 and 2022 he was a faculty member in Paediatrics at the National and Kapodostrian University of Athens and held the post of Associate Professor in Paediatric Infectious Diseases. Since 2022 he leads the Paediatric service at Mitera hospital in Athens.

His entire research focuses on Paediatric Infectious Diseases. That includes antibiotic resistance and stewardship at hospital level and antibiotic prescribing guidelines. He was a fellow of the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases when he led the European initiatives on reducing antibiotic prescribing in EU hospitals. He has participated in many international studies, published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, and served on national and hospital committees for antibiotic use and stewardship.  He has an interest in teaching and advanced educational practices and over the years he has been an invited speaker and presenter in seminars and international congresses.
