George Kararigas is a Professor at the Medical School University of Nicosia Athens. Prof. Kararigas got trained in Molecular Medicine (M.Sc.) at University College London and received his doctorate (Ph.D.) from Humboldt University Berlin. During his doctorate, he was a Visiting Fellow at the EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute in Hinxton/Cambridge funded by a Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds Fellowship. Following a postgraduate and an independent research position at Charite University Hospital, he held a DZHK Professorship funded by the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK), after which he moved to Iceland appointed as a Professor of Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Iceland. His scientific leadership extends beyond the university. He has chaired multiple international conferences, spearheaded COST Actions and served on Editorial Boards, including as Associate Editor for Biology of Sex Differences and Editorial Member of American Journal of Physiology – Heart and Circulatory Physiology. His primary research interests include mechanisms of sex differences in cardiovascular (patho)physiology, hormonal effects in the heart, gene expression and regulation, while more recently, he has been involved in interdisciplinary research into ethical implications of artificial intelligence.
