Webinar 7: “Training Workshop on Doctoral Degree supervision”

A good teamwork between students and supervisors is the panacea for a PhD’s success. This webinar gives an overview of all milestones towards a PhD degree, from application to final viva defense. The webinar specifies the necessary level of experience of PhD supervisors and their qualities of emotional transformational leaders. Furthermore, it refers to the university’s infrastructural support and to formal process management of the PhD journey.

Emphasizing that the final responsibility for their ‘PhD Baby’ rests on the PhD students, the professional PhD supporting activities and characteristics of the supervisors as ‘empathetic and supportive sparring partners or coaches’ will be explained as well as conflict solution based on good academic practice.

Focal attention is dedicated to the effective preparation of the student for the viva. This relates to submission and evaluation dates, details of viva initiation, viva committee and defense, or conducting a ‘mock viva’ with the supervisory team to mention but a few. Highly recommended collective learning experience mechanisms will also be illustrated.

The webinar will be spiced by real life stories drawn from the practical and international experience of the presenter and by questions and/or statements of the attendees.
