Professor Christine Latham’s presentation will look at many of the client-related challenges faced by practising veterinary surgeons, discuss why we sometimes perceive clients as being “difficult”, focus on the importance of effective clinical communication skills and offer some practical tips and solutions for preventing and dealing with such situations.

About the Speaker
Christine Latham, MA, VetMB, CertVR, MRCVS
Professor of Veterinary Communication Skills,
School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Nicosia
Christine qualified as a veterinary surgeon from the University of Cambridge in 1981 and also holds an MA in Applied Biology. She was awarded a post graduate certificate in Veterinary Radiology by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1991.
Her career has spanned general practice, academia and professional indemnity insurance, where she was involved in assisting and advising vets facing client and regulatory complaints, as well as financial claims, in the UK and Republic of Ireland. She has been actively involved in the teaching of veterinary communication skills both at undergraduate and post-graduate levels for over 20 years.
