Eleni Georgakopoulou is an Assistant Professor in Histology at the University of Nicosia Medical School, Athens.
Dr. Georgakopoulou holds a PhD in Medicine, an MD, a DDS, and an MSc in Oral Medicine. She obtained her degrees from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and the University of London (Eastman Dental Institute, UCL), where she graduated with distinction in her postgraduate studies.
Her research focuses on histology and basic research, particularly in cellular senescence, carcinogenesis, and inflammation-related disorders. As a postdoctoral researcher in Histology and Embryology at NKUA, she investigates the role of cellular senescence in cancer development, precancerous lesions, and inflammatory-driven carcinogenesis. Her contributions include the development of novel biomarkers for senescence detection and participation in interdisciplinary projects utilizing nanotechnology-based anticancer therapies. She has published extensively in high impact journals and actively contributes to the scientific community as an editor and reviewer for international journals. Additionally, she works privately as a specialized Stomatologist (oral medicine specialist), diagnosing and managing complex oral conditions, including potentially malignant disorders, oral mucosal diseases, and systemic disease manifestations in the oral cavity.
