Digital Transformation of the Healthcare Industry through Blockchain

DECENTRALIZED Learning Series Webinar | 15 December 2020

The next dynamic webinar as part of the newly launched DECENTRALIZED Learning Series 2020-2021 will outline the way in which blockchain technology is reshaping the Healthcare Industry by enhancing Patient Centricity. This is being advanced through VeChain’s ToolChain and dedicated tools such as the E-Hert App and the V-PASS (Vaccination Passport), which markedly assist in improving the communication, trust, and transparency between healthcare providers and patients.

As Cyprus is making its way in the Blockchain era, educators, legislators, and professionals all have a role to play in creating an ecosystem within which the technology can thrive and achieve its maximum potential. In line with that, the opening remarks (18:00-18:15) will be delivered by Mr. Kyriacos Kokkinos, Deputy Minister to the President for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, underscoring the Cyprus government’s increasing engagement with the technology.

For his part, Keynote Speaker Alexis Nicolaou (Director, Grant Thornton) will delineate how Grant Thornton will help drive Blockchain Technology adoption in Cyprus (18:15-18:40). Mr. Nicolaou will touch upon the practices that have been successful elsewhere, whether legal, or business, as the way forward. “Embracing solutions that have a track record to show for themselves, is the easiest, safest and most effective way to utilize the potential of the technology, and that is what we, at Grant Thornton are advising our clients to do”, he remarked ahead of the webinar on Tuesday, 15 December 2020.

This will be followed by a look at “How Blockchain is redefining the domain of e-Health” (18:40-19:10), by speakers Dimitris Neocleous (Ecosystem Manager, VeChain Europe) and Stelios Yiallouros (CIO, Aretaieio Hospital). On their part, speakers Pantelis Angelides (Director, Risk and Security Consultant, QuadPrime Cyprus) and Anastasios Kareklas (Advocate, Legal Consultant / Data Protection Officer, KKP LLC) will expand on the “The circle of trust in DLT: A focus on Data Protection and Security” (19:10-19:40).

The global conference series has returned for a fourth year, this time reformatted as a series of dynamic webinars focused on learning. The series kicked off last month, with a specialised Ripple Workshop on the RippleX open-source platform addressed to developers, having been preceded by an insightful discussion between Dr. W. Scott Stornetta (considered one of the “fathers” of Blockchain) and Mr. Antonis Polemitis (CEO, University of Nicosia), who spearheaded the first full academic degree in the field (MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currency) at the University of Nicosia.

The DECENTRALIZED Learning Series 2020-2021 is organised by the University of Nicosia (UNIC), a leader in education and research in blockchain and digital currencies.
