The Department of Health Sciences, School of Life and Health Sciences of the University of Nicosia, invites applications for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pharmaceutical Sciences for the Fall 2026 semester.

Research Areas

Up to five (5) doctoral positions are available for Fall 2026 across the following research indicative themes:

  • Artificial Intelligence, Computational Pharmacy and Drug Discovery
  • Precision Medicine and Pharmacogenomics
  • Molecular Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology
  • Real-World Data Analytics, Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics
  • Pharmacognosy and Natural Products
  • Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy
  • Regulatory Science and Pharmaceutical Policy
  • Pharmaceutical Technology, Drug Delivery and Biomaterials

Applicants are encouraged to propose innovative research addressing current scientific, clinical, industrial, computational, or regulatory challenges within these areas.

Admission Requirements

Language of instruction: English

Applicants should satisfy the University’s doctoral admission requirements and normally possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, or another closely related discipline, and a recognised Master’s degree in relevant field.
  • An Integrated Master’s degree in Pharmacy (Mpharm) or another integrated Master’s degree in a closely related discipline that is recognised as equivalent to a second-cycle qualification.
  • Demonstrated research potential and academic excellence.
  • Satisfactory English language proficiency. Applicants whose previous degree was not taught in English must provide evidence of English language proficiency in accordance with University regulations.

Applicants should submit the following:

  • Completed Application Form.
  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • Certified true copies of all academic qualifications.
  • Original or certified true copies of academic transcripts.
  • Two reference letters (at least one should preferably be from an academic who has supervised or taught the applicant).
  • Research Proposal (4,000–5,000 words), including:
    • Proposed title;
    • Background and literature review;
    • Research aims and objectives;
    • Research questions or hypotheses;
    • Proposed research methodology;
    • Expected scientific contribution;
    • Key references.
  • Publications (if available), including previous theses/dissertations and any published academic work relevant to the proposed research.
  • Statement of Purpose, outlining:
    • Academic background and research interests;
    • Individual competencies and research experience;
    • Motivation for pursuing doctoral studies;
    • Reasons for applying to the programme;
    • Why the applicant believes they are suitable for doctoral studies;
    • Expected contribution of the programme to their personal, academic, and professional development.

Selection Procedure

Applications will be evaluated based on:

  • Academic qualifications and previous academic performance.
  • Quality, originality, scientific merit, and feasibility of the proposed research.
  • Research experience and publications (where applicable).
  • Academic references.
  • Statement of Purpose.
  • Personal interview.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a personal interview either in person or via teleconferencing.
