After completing his graduate studies in law (Faculty of Law, Democritus University of Thrace, Greece), Dr. Athanasios Chouliaras studied at post-graduate level criminology (Faculty of Law, University of Barcelona, Spain), philosophy of law and sociology of law (both at the Faculty of Law of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece), at doctorate level criminal law and criminology (Faculty of Law, Democritus University of Thrace, Greece), he conducted post-doctoral research in the field of social sciences (Department of Sociology, Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, Greece) and he attended various specialization courses in international criminal justice. He has considerable graduate and undergraduate teaching experience in the field of criminal sciences and has published and presented many research papers in national and international journals and conferences. He is the author of two monographs: The Emergence of the International Criminal Justice System. Aspects of Systemic International Criminality, Athens-Thessaloniki: Sakkoulas Publications, 2013 (in Greek) and Penal Power, Crime Policy and their Cultural Context. A critical criminological approach, Athens-Thessaloniki: Sakkoulas Publications, 2024 (in Greek). His research interests include corporate and state criminality, penality, impunity, models of accountability and criminal legislation. He works as attorney at law in Athens, Greece.
