Essential skills for your first day in farm animal practice

BRIEF SUMMARY

This guest lecture will detail practical approaches to common problems encountered in UK farm animal practice. Using on-farm video recordings, the presentation will demonstrate anaesthetic protocols and surgical procedures commonly used in field conditions, as well as the clinical application of ultrasonography for diagnostic purposes in farm animals.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr Phil Scott, PhD, is a leading independent vet specialist, with over 47 years of experience in farm animal practice. He is the Head of Capital Veterinary Services, a veterinary sheep consultancy which has concentrated on the ultrasound diagnosis of OPA for the past 10 years. He holds a Doctorate for studies in perinatal lamb mortality from the University of Edinburgh.

In 1993, he was awarded the title of Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (FRCVS) for studies in Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE). He is a Foundation Diplomat of both the European College of Small Ruminant Health Management (ECSRHM) and European College of Bovine Health Management (ECBHM). He has published five veterinary textbooks and over 120 peer-reviewed publications.
