Dr Evagoras Nicolaides is the Director of Postgraduate General Medicine and Professor of Postgraduate Medicine at the University of Nicosia Medical School. A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London, he formerly served as Director of the Cardiology Department and Medical Director of Nicosia General Hospital. He has also served as the first Chairman of the Cyprus Medical Education Council.
Dr George Athanasiou, MD (Charles University Prague), MSc (Open University Cyprus), AvME (King’s College London)
Dr George Athanasiou is a Clinical Assistant Professor of General Practice and Head of Occupational Health Services at the University of Nicosia Medical School. He served for eight years in the A&E Department of the Larnaca General Hospital. His research focuses on primary healthcare management and quality improvement. He is interested in Aviation Medicine, where he is active in the medical certification of flying personnel. His interests also include Emergency and Major Disaster Management.
Dr Nicolas Pipis, MBChB Hons (University of Manchester), BSc Hons Pathology (University of Manchester), MRCGP
Dr Pipis is a Clinical Assistant Professor of General Practice at the University of Nicosia Medical School. He has completed his medical degree at the University of Manchester and has been working in the UK’s NHS since 2018. He completed his foundation and specialty MRCGP training in the Greater Manchester area. His previous research and quality improvement projects have focused mainly on rheumatoid conditions and the care of the elderly.

Sotiris Dimosthenous is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Nicosia (UNIC) Medical School and a General Practitioner at UNIC Medical Centre. Dr Dimosthenous is a graduate of the St George’s University of London MBBS programme delivered by UNIC Medical School. He also holds a BS in Biology from the University of North Carolina. He completed his foundation training in London (North West Thames) and his specialty training within the Oxford Deanery, MRCGP. He is a Member of the UK Royal College of General Practitioners. His research interests include medical education and primary health care.
Dr Ilias Koutsogeorgis, MD

Cardiology
Dr Ilias Koutsogeorgis, Lead for Cardiology Services at the Medical Centre, is a Consultant Cardiologist specialising in Electrophysiology, Heart Failure and Cardiac Devices. He particularly focuses on the management of arrhythmias, heart failure and cardiomyopathies and he is certified by the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) for implantation and follow- up of all types of Cardiac Devices (pacemakers, defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization therapy, subcutaneous ICDs). He is also performing highly complex cases of transvenous lead extraction.
Dr Koutsogeorgis qualified with an MD from the University of Athens in 2005. Following junior medical training in Greece he began specialist cardiology training in Athens in 2009. He was the youngest cardiologist in Greece to get Cardiac Device Certification Level 1, in Nice, France in 2014 and received a scholarship from the Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Cambridge, as a fellow in cardiac devices. After finishing his training in Cardiology he was appointed as a Research Fellow in cardiac devices at Barts Heart Center in London, the largest unit in Europe. In 2018 he was appointed as an Honorary Consultant at Barts Heart Center in cardiac devices and arrhythmias and in 2019 he was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist with Special Interest in cardiac devices at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust. In 2020 he got a Consultant Post in London at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. In Cyprus he is leading the cardiac care at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics in patients with rare diseases and performs all type of device implantations (pacemaker, defibrillators (ICDs), Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRTs), Subcutaneous defibrillators (ICDs) ) at the German Oncology Center in Limassol. He has participated as an investigator in several Multi- Center Trials in Heart Failure and Cardiac Device therapy (PRAETORIAN, UNTOUCHED, STRIVE- HF, MINERVA)
His areas of expertise include implantable loop recorders (ILRs,) pacemakers, implantable cardioverter- defibrillators (ICDs,) subcutaneous defibrillators (S- ICDs,) cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRTs,) syncope, echocardiography, stress test, holter ECG recordings, holter blood pressure recordings, stroke prevention, whereas some of the conditions he commonly treats include arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, palpitations, loss of consciousness episodes, heart failure, hypertension, coronary artery disease.

Consultant Cardiologist
Dr Panayiotis Avraamides is Clinical Professor of Cardiology at the University of Nicosia Medical School and Consultant Cardiologist at the University of Nicosia Medical Centre.
Dr Avraamides trained in medicine and cardiology in the UK. He graduated from University College London with MBBS and BSc (Hons) Physiology.
Dr Avraamides is former Director of the Cardiology Department and former Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at Nicosia General Hospital. He is highly experienced in all cardiac interventions, having performed tens of thousands of cardiac catheterisations/coronary angiography/angioplasties/stenting/TAVI/mitral and tricuspid valve repairs/LAA occlusion and thousands of device/pacemaker/ICD/CRT implantations, atrial fibrillation ablation and electrophysiological studies. He has pioneered many such interventions, having been the first to perform them in Cyprus.
Dr Avraamides was, notably, the first cardiologist in Cyprus to introduce and perform the now routine procedure of percutaneous aortic valve replacement TAVI. Years before, with another colleague, he was the first to introduce and perform coronary stenting, which is now the default therapy for coronary disease.
Amongst more recent firsts, Dr Avraamides was the first cardiologist in Cyprus to introduce and perform AF ablation with the latest revolutionary technology of Pulsed Field Ablation. He was also the first to introduce and perform the implantation of leadless pacemakers, a new technological revolution in cardiac pacing.
Dr Avraamides is President of the Cyprus Working Group on Cardiac Arrhythmias, Pacing and Electrophysiology, past President of the Cyprus Working Group on Interventional Cardiology, and past President of the Cyprus Society of Cardiology.
Dr Avraamides has been elected to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP Lon) and to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (FRCP Edin). He has also been honoured by election to the Fellowship of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (FEACVI), the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the American Heart Association (FAHA), the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (USA, FSCAI) and the Heart Rhythm Society (USA, FHRS).

Danagra Georgia Ikossi, MD, FACS is a General Surgeon, certified by the American Board of Surgery, and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She has fellowship training and extensive experience in Advanced Laparoscopy and Robotic Surgery. Dr. Ikossi is licensed to practice as a surgeon in California, USA and the Republic of Cyprus. She participates in GESY and accepts international insurance.
After her surgical training and 13 years in practice as a surgeon in Northern California, Dr. Ikossi moved to Cyprus in 2022. She offers patients state of the art surgical treatment with less pain, a shorter recovery time, and a more aesthetically acceptable scar. Dr Dionysios Vaidakis is a Visiting Specialist in Gynaecology at the UNIC Medical Centre and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Nicosia Medical School. His research interests include subfertility, fertility preservation in oncological patients and application of modern technologies in primary health care.
Dr Lambros Athanatos, MD, MRCS (UK), FRCS (Tr. & Orth.), CCT (UK)
Orthopaedic – Microsurgeon
Dr Athanatos is a distinguished Consultant Orthopaedic & Microsurgeon, whose medical journey spans several countries and a multitude of specialties. His initial medical training was completed at the University of Szeged Medical School (Hungary), followed by foundation experiences in Larnaca (Cyprus), and Norwich (UK). Dr Athanatos further honed his skills in the Mersey Deanery (Liverpool) and the Kent, Sussex and Surrey deaneries, where he completed his core surgical training (CST) in Trauma & Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, and Urology.
His journey continued as a registrar across multiple reputable hospitals in the UK, including the Oxford Deanery and East Kent Hospitals. Dr Athanatos achieved his FRCS in Trauma & Orthopaedics in 2021, after an extensive Higher Surgical Training in the East Midlands South Deanery, encompassing Leicester University Hospitals and Queens Medical Trauma Centre (Nottingham).
Specializing further, Dr Athanatos undertook super-specialty training in Hand Surgery in the prestigious ‘TIG Fellowship in Hand Surgery’ in Newcastle.
His leadership roles during his training include presidency of the Leicester Orthopaedic Trainee Association and involvement with the British Orthopaedic Trainee Association.
Dr Athanatos has numerous scientific publications, international presentations, and significant teaching roles in various postgraduate courses in the UK. His professional affiliations include the Cyprus Association of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (CAOST), the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH).

Consultant Urological Surgeon & Andrologist
Dr Hadjipavlou is a Consultant Urological Surgeon & Andrologist and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Nicosia Medical School. He qualified from King’s College London School of Medicine in 2009 and completed his surgical and urological specialist training in London. Dr Hadjipavlou was appointed Consultant & Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Hospitals in 2020 and was subsequently invited to join the Royal-affiliated King Edward VII Hospital in London’s Harley Street medical area, where he still maintains his practice.
He has a specialist interest in complex prostate enlargement issues and minimally invasive treatments (including Holmium Laser Enucleation of Prostate – HoLEP), precision prostate cancer diagnostics, kidney stone management and erectile dysfunction. Dr Hadjipavlou has performed over 5,000 surgical procedures and completed training in minimally invasive focal treatments for early prostate cancer at Imperial College Hospital and at University College Hospital. Dr Hadjipavlou also sees patients with various disorders of the kidneys, bladder, prostate, penis and testes and he performs a wide range of urological procedures.
Dr Hadjipavlou served as an expert advisor for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) contributing to guidance on new medical technologies for benign prostatic enlargement. He actively participates in clinical research and is a recognised medical trainer by the General Medical Council. With a strong academic interest, he has over 30 publications, 6 book chapters and over 60 national & international presentations earning 12 prizes from prestigious organizations including the European Association of Urology, the British Association of Urological Surgeons and the Royal Society of Medicine.

Consultant in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine
Dr Soteriadou graduated with a medical degree from the University of Manchester in 2006. She completed a her training in the U.K. and worked there as a Consultant in the NHS.
She has a vast experience in dealing with gastroenterology related conditions which include Endoscopy (Diagnostic and Therapeutic Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy), Luminal (Inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis, Irritable bowel Syndrome, Coeliac disease etc.) and Hepatology. Dr Soteriadou believes in research and has been involved in several projects. She has presented her work in National and International conferences and is a published author. She believes in the importance of continuing medical education thus attends conferences and online sessions to ensure she keeps up with the latest guidelines. Throughout her career she has been involved in teaching and education and was the Training and Education Lead in her previous job. She has taught and has been an examiner of doctors, medical students, and allied health professionals. Dr Soteriadou is a Member of the PanCyprian Medical Association, Cypriot & British Society of Gastroenterology, Royal College of Physicians, and the General Medical Council.
